Review: Nokia AC15X Charger

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Nokia chargers really aren’t that interesting, after all, it only charges your phone. But I thought the new Nokia AC-15X deserved a quick mention due to it’s quirky new design.

Over the last few years Nokia Chargers have gotten smaller, lighter and more energy efficient. The AC15X is their smallest and lightest one yet and features a unique sliding third pin.

The ‘Earth’ pin on Nokia chargers isn’t really needed and has been made from plastic for as long as I can remember, but every charger has to have to – if nothing else to keep it secure in the socket. This normally means that chargers are square or rectangular and take up quite a bit of space in your bag when you’re travelling.

The new sliding pin retracts into the base of the charger when it’s not in use – this allows the body of the charger to be around half the size of a standard Nokia AC4x Mains Charger and a lot lighter.

AC-15X Specifications:

  • 27 x 50 x 75.7 mm
  • Weighs approx 37g
  • Cable Length 1800mm
  • Nokia 2mm charging Tip

The new Nokia AC15x Mains charger is shipping now in the latest sim free Nokia phones such as the 6700 Slide and is also available to pre-order separately.

Do you have a drawer full of old Nokia Chargers at home that you don’t use anymore, but haven’t got round to throwing away?  You’d be right for thinking that current phones no longer use the old 3.5mm charging connection, so what do you do with them?  Throwing them away seems like a waste, and you’ve probably got other devices in the house with broken or missing chargers. Wouldn’t it be great if you could put these old Nokia chargers to good use and use them with other devices?

Well, the fantastic news is, you can!

We’ve just refreshed our range of charger adapters that will allow you to use your old Nokia Mains Charger with almost any other mobile phone or handheld device.
The way they work is simple, just attach the adapter to the end of your Nokia Charger and connect it to your phone, It couldn’t be easier.

Getting the right Nokia Mains Charger

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Years ago if you lost or damaged your Nokia charger, I’m sure you wouldn’t have been too bothered, a Nokia charger was almost a household item and no matter where you were, chances are someone would have had one that you’d be able to use.  Recently though, Nokia have been changing the connections on their phones and introducing new style chargers with different sized charging pins.

To help you work out which is the best charger for you, we’ve been through the entire range of Nokia chargers and listed the differences between them below.

Original Nokia Chargers

The first mainstream Nokia charger used a fairly large 3.5mm connection, and came with early Nokia handsets such as the 6230i, 5110, 7110 etc.  Nokia make two versions of this charger, the ACP-12X and the AC-7X.

Original Nokia 3.5mm Chargers

Nokia ACP-12X Mains Charger – This charger is the standard one that would have been in the box with your phone.  They were quite heavy and bulky.

Nokia AC-7X Mains Charger – This charger was included with Nokia handsets around the same time as they introduced the small pin charger.  In terms of functionality it’s the same as the ACP-12X, but is a much lighter charger which makes it ideal for people who travel.

Nokia 2mm Small Pin Chargers

A few years ago, Nokia decided to change the charging port to a smaller 2mm ‘Small Pin’ Charger.  You can also use a CA-44 Charging adapter to convert your older 3.5mm Nokia charger into the newer small pin charger.

Nokia 2mm Small Pin Chargers

Despite most Nokia  handsets taking the same charger, Nokia still decided to produce 4 different versions of the 2mm charger – the AC-3X, AC-4X, AC-5X and AC-8X.  As everyone has become more energy concious over the past year or so, Nokia have started to give their some of their chargers energy ratings so that you can see how efficient your charger is.

Nokia AC-3X Mains Charger – The AC-3X Charger is even smaller the AC-7X and is a multi-voltage charger – this means you can use it to charge your Nokia accessories as well as your phone.

Nokia AC-4X Mains Charger – The AC-4X Charger is an ultra lightweight charger.  Nokia have given this charger a 2 star energy rating.

Nokia AC-5X Mains Charger – The AC-5X Charger is the smallest Nokia charger available.  It’s an ultra lightweight charger  that will stop charging your phone when the battery is full. Works with accessories and phones. Nokia have given this charger a 2 star energy rating.

Nokia AC-8X Mains Charger – The AC-8X Charger is an energy efficient charger that uses 94% less power than most other chargers.  It is also multi-vlotage, so it will work with Bluetooth Headsets and other Nokia accessories. Nokia have given this charger a 5 star energy rating.

Nokia Micro USB Chargers

Earlier this year, several of the leading handset manufacturers announced that they were going to make Micro USB chargers standard across all mobile phones by 2012.  While we may still be a way off, Nokia have now started to include this charging connection on some of their newer handsets.     You can also use a CA-146C Charging adapter to convert your older 3.5mm Nokia charger or 2mm Nokia Charger into the newer small pin charger.

Nokia Micro USB Mains Chargers

Nokia AC-6X Mains Charger – The AC-6X Charger is a lightweight, portable charger that will work with most Micro USB devices. Nokia have given this charger a 4 star energy rating.

Nokia AC-10X Mains Charger – The AC-10X Charger is an energy efficient charger that uses 94% less power than most other chargers. Nokia have given this charger a 5 star energy rating.

In addition to the range of genuine Nokia Mains Chargers we also stock a wide range of third pary Nokia Chargers:

A Guide to Nokia Chargers

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Everybody knows that a Nokia Charger is a general household item and can be found lying around in most homes. Great if you’re often out and about visiting friends or family and running out of power, but as the phones have become more advanced, Nokia have changed and improved their charging connections.

Classic Nokia Charger

This is the original Nokia Charger connector, the one that everyone will have lying around at home. No longer used on any of their current handsets, this is a 3.5mm connection used on handsets from the original Nokia 5110, right through to the Nokia 6230i.

2mm Nokia Charger

This is the current Nokia Charger, used on most of their handsets. With phones getting smaller in size, Nokia reduced the size of the charging pin down to 2mm. If you have the classic Nokia mains or car charger, you can use the Nokia CA-44 Charging Adapter to reduce the size of the charging tip from 3.5mm to 2mm.

Micro USB Nokia Charger

Starting to appear on the higher end Nokia phones, the Micro USB Charger uses the same port as some handsfree kits and data cables (not at the same time!) These ports provide a faster transfer rate, which is why they can normally be found on the latest Multimedia handsets

Charge Anywhere
Historically you could only ever get chargers to use at home or in the car. Now you can charge your phone just about anywhere. You can now use a USB Charging Cable connected to a spare port on your PC or Laptop, an Emergency Charger that uses a standard AA Battery, a wind-up charger or even Solar power.
