The Best Cases for HTC Phones

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

Sometimes, you don’t want a top ten list of cases for a given phone — you just want one solid recommendation that you can go with. Particularly if you’re new to buying smartphones or getting it as a gift for someone else, all of the technical details can be confusing. To start off with, let’s go with one of the most successful Android handset manufactuers: HTC.

HTC Sensation

It makes sense to start with the HTC flagship phone, so let’s have a look at which HTC Sensation accessories are available. The only HTC Sensation case from Otterbox is the Commuter Series, but that’s the one I’d pick. The Commuter is a good combination of size and protection, just like the Sensation itself.

HTC Desire HD

Coming down the line we come to the HTC Desire HD. This is a fairly massive phone that doesn’t emphasis its thin figure, so I’d go for a more protective HTC Desire HD case. My first pick would probably be the Otterbox Defender, a great case that offers a lot of protective features unique to the case.

HTC Desire S

The Desire S is the refined younger brother of the Desire HD. It’s a smaller, trendier phone so I’d choose a HTC Desire S case to match. The HTC Desire S Meteor Slip Pouch comes from HTC themselves and has a cool design at a low price, so that’d be my first stop.

HTC Wildfire S

The HTC Wildfire S is a clever, mid-range phone from HTC. The HTC Wildfire S case I’d choose would be the small, cute and colourful. The best way to achieve all of these is the cool 10-in-1 silicone case pack, which has ten separate colours.

HTC Wildfire

The original Wildfire is much the same, although slightly bigger. The HTC Wildfire case of choice offers slightly better protection and construction quality than found in the 10-in-1 pack, and in a cool clear colour – a nice way to show off the high quality HTC stylings.

5 Great HTC Wildfire Accessories for under £15

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

The Wildfire has been out for around 6 months now and it’s still one of the most popular smartphones out there. It’s relatively low price point makes it a great choice if it’s your first smartphone/touchscreen handset. With prices starting at £225 sim free, £150 on pay as you go and free on a £15 a month contract, the Wildfire will no doubt be extremely popular over the Christmas period.

If you’re looking for HTC Wildfire accessories to compliment your phone, or for a gift this Christmas you’re in the right place. There are hundreds of HTC Wildfire Cases, HTC Wildfire Covers and HTC Wildfire Chargers to choose from over on the main site, but I thought I’d highlight a handful of some of the best accessories that you can get for less than £15.

HTC Wildfire Pouch – PO S530

To keep costs down, HTC aren’t putting a carry case in the box with the Wildfire. Dents, scuffs and knocks really spoil the appearance of your phone so a case is a must have item. The PO-S530 from HTC has been made specifically for the HTC Wildfire and is a soft leather pouch that has a soft microfibre lining to keep your screen free from fingerprints.

HTC CC C200 Micro USB Car Charger

Ask any smartphone owner to tell you about one thing that could be improved and they’ll probably tell you the battery life. The Wildfire’s battery isn’t too bad, but start using your phone for any GPS based function like sat nav and you’ll see the battery levels drop through the floor!

If you are planning on using the Wildfire in the car, then this HTC Wildfire Car Charger is worth getting. As with every other car charger out there, it plugs in to the cigarette lighter in the car and connects to your phone. What makes it a bit different though is that it has a standard USB port on it that allows you to charge any portable device that you’ve got a USB cable for.

HTC Wildfire Screen Protector SP P380 – Twin Pack

The best way to keep your phone looking like new without the added bulk of a case is to fit a Wildfire screen protector. A screen protector is a slightly thicker, more durable plastic film than the one that’s on your phone when you buy it. They last a long time and are great at protecting against scuffs and scratches. They’re fitted in seconds and can be removed easily, without leaving any sticky residue behind.

HTC RC E160 Music Stereo Headset Remote Control

The Wildfire can take memory cards up to 32GB in size, making it a great alternative to carrying around a separate MP3 Player. This headset features an inline remote that allows you to play/pause and track skip without having to touch your phone.

HTC Wildfire Desktop Charging Cradle

My biggest pet hate about charging my phone is that I can never remember where I last had my charger. This Desk charger solves that problem. It can be connected to either your PC or a power supply and can be left in place so that you have somewhere dedicated to charge your phone. If you connect it to your PC it will also sync your phone while it’s charging.

Hopefully you’ve seen something here that will help you get the most out of your Wildfire or that will be the ideal Christmas gift. There are hundreds more HTC Wildfire Accessories over on the main site as well as plenty of Christmas Gift Ideas. 5 Must Have Accessories for the HTC Wildfire

Monday, July 12th, 2010

The HTC Wildfire is the baby brother to the HTC Desire. Visually they look quite similar, but when you look a little closer you’ll spot a few key differences. The Wildfire has a slightly smaller, lower resolution screen, that doesn’t drain your battery so quickly, touch sensitive controls and is generally smaller and lighter.

Whether you’re upgrading from an older Android phone such as the Hero or Tattoo, or if you’re new to Android and touch screen phones, the Wildfire is an excellent choice of handset.

You get a few Wildfire Accessories in the box to start you off, but if you really want to make the most of the phone, there are a number of accessories that are well worth investing in. Here are my top 5 accessories for the HTC Wildfire.

1. HTC Wildfire Screen Protector

If you’re only going to invest in one accessory for your Wildfire then it really needs to be a screen protector. The screen on your phone is the most vulnerable part of the handset, damage it and it could render your phone useless. This screen protector is made by HTC specifically for the Wildfire and is a perfect fit. It doesn’t interfere with the touch sensitive controls at the bottom of the screen or the earpiece at the top of the display.

2. HTC PO S530 Carry Pouch

Another accessory from HTC that’s made specifically for the Wildfire is the PO S530 Carry Pouch. What makes this one stand out is the built in pull strap. When your phone is in the case the strap tucks in and prevents your phone from falling out, but when you want to remove your phone, just give the strap a gentle tug and it will raise your phone from the case quickly and effortlessly. The case is made from a high quality leather and has a soft interior that helps keep the screen clean and prevent scratches.

3. HTC CC C200 Car Charger

Ask any smartphone owner about their battery life and you’ll be met with a pretty negative response. Even though the battery in the Wildfire out performs that of the HTC Desire, it’s still going to drain quickly as soon as you start using your phone in the car with any GPS apps  - Sat Nav in particular.

HTC Wildfire Car Charger

The HTC CC200 is a genuine HTC accessory that will keep your Wildfire charged in the car. Unlike some cheaper car chargers, the CC200 is powerful enough to charge the phone even when it’s being used for GPS.

4. Sandisk 16GB Memory Card

The 3.5″ screen on the Wildfire is great for looking at photo’s, watching movies and playing games, but the limited internal memory means that you’re not going to be able to store much on the phone without replacing the memory card. The HTC Wildfire supports memory cards of up to 32GB in size, but considering the processing power of the phone I’d suggest sticking to 16GB for now.

5. Sony Ericsson MW600 Stereo Bluetooth Headset

You might think it strange to see a Sony Ericsson headset in a list of accessories for a HTC phone, but the truth is this is one of the best bluetooth headsets available at the moment. It’s incredibly compact and is designed to be either hung around your neck or clipped on to your clothing.

Sony Ericsson MW600 Stereo Headset with Radio

The main body of the headset packs a lot in to a small space. It’s a multipoint headset that allows you to use it with a phone and a music device at the same time. It has a 3.5mm headphone jack so that you can use any standard 3.5mm headphones with it. What really makes it stand out though is the built in FM Radio.  Smart phone users have been crying out for an FM radio to be added to the phones, but the manufacturers seem to be ignoring their requests.

For more information the headset read my hands on review of the Sony Ericsson MW600

These are just a handful of the accessories available for the HTC Wildfire so if you’ve not seen anything here that does what you want, don’t worry, just head over to our HTC Wildfire Accessories page where you’ll be able to view hundreds of products to help you make the most of your phone and keep it looking at its best.

It’s not all about iPhone 4

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

If you are into your gadgets and tech blogs, I’m sure you’ll have noticed that Apple are yet again dominating the internet this week with their impending iPhone 4 launch, but this week it’s not all about Apple. As well as the latest version of iPhone there are a number of excellent new smartphones hitting the shelves.

Sony Ericsson, HTC, BlackBerry and Samsung have all got new phones out, but you won’t hear much about them as they’ve been overshadowed by Apple yet again. So to give them their 5 minutes of glory, here are some other smartphones that are new and well worth taking a look at.

Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung Galaxy S

The Galaxy S was originally announced at the same time as the Samsung Wave but with Samsung focusing on their new Bada operating system, the Android running Galaxy S was surprisingly pushed to one side. Well, it’s now launch time for the Galaxy S and WOW. What a handset. Until now the best phone out there was the HTC Desire with iPhone 4 waiting to knock it off the top spot. That’s all going to change now and it’s definitely a three horse race.

The Galaxy S matches both the iPhone 4 and Desire in specs, beating them on a couple of points. It runs Android 2.1 – currently the best alternative to iPhone that there is, and it sports a superb Super AMOLED display. Samsung have customised the Android interface on the Galaxy S to bring it in line with the appearance of the rest of the handset range, and they’ve done a great job. There’s no duplication of apps like there is with the HTC Sense UI that’s found on the Desire.

If you don’t want to wait in line on Thursday for an iPhone, or simply want a phone that’s just as good for a lot less money, then the Galaxy S should be your only choice.

The Samsung Galaxy S has only launched this week, but we’ve already got a range of Galaxy S Cases and Galaxy S Accessories in stock and available now.

HTC Wildfire

HTC Wildfire

HTC Wildfire

The HTC Wildfire is a junior version of the HTC Desire. It has the same slim, stylish look to it and a much lower price tag. In order to make a more affordable version of the Desire, some of the specs have been turned down a little. The screen resolution is a reduced, as is the processor speed and internal memory.

The HTC Sense UI has had a bit of a make over on the Wildfire and there are a number of new features, most of which are based around social networking. A couple of stand out ones are that Caller ID is now integrated with Facebook, so when someone calls you, as well as seeing their photo and phone number, you’ll also see their Facebook Status. You’re also able to see the latest posts and updates from facebook, twitter and flickr all in one place and on the same screen. No more switching between apps to check what’s going on.

The Wildfire still boasts a 5 MP camera with smile detection, capacitive touch screen, GPS and it runs the Android 2.1 operating ssytem. It’s quite a bit smaller and lighter than the Desire too, so if you’re new to touchscreen phones and don’t want something too big and bulky, this is a great choice.

The Wildfire hasn’t been out long, but we’ve already got a great selection of HTC Wildfire  Accessories to help you make the most of your new smartphone.

Sony Ericsson X10 Mini

Sony Ericsson X10 Mini

Sony Ericsson X10 Mini

I wrote a post last week that gave my first impressions of the X10 Mini at the end of last week.  The X10 Mini is unlike any other smartphone out there at the moment. It’s a lot smaller than you’d expect and is a similar size to most of the popular slide handsets from Samsung and Nokia.

Again, the X10 Mini runs Android, but given the compact dimensions of the phone, it’s had to be heavily customised by Sony Ericsson – So much so, that it’s almost unrecognisable as the Android operating system, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing as it gives the phone a fresh, friendly, social feel that has social messaging and sharing right at the heart of the phone.

If you’re into your Apps then you may encounter some difficulties with the X10 Mini as the reduced screen size and resolution may mean that not all apps will run on it, but I’d expect that to change once developers get behind the phone and start updating their apps.

If you’ve got, or are getting an X10 Mini, make sure you check out our range of X10 Mini Accessories.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G

BlackBerry Pearl 3G

BlackBerry Pearl 3G

BlackBerry have been a bit quiet recently, but over the next few months I’d expect to see several new handsets from them. The first of them being the all new 3G version of the popular BlackBerry Pearl, but it’s not just the 3G that’s new on the Pearl 3G – the keyboard has seen a few changes too.

The original Pearl was aimed at everyday consumers that wanted the experience of BlackBerry, but didn’t want a full-on qwerty device. The keyboard on the phone was a new, never seen before qwerty hybrid called suretype and combined a standard keypad with a qwerty one. This time round, BlackBerry have changed the keypad again and have dropped the suretype keypad and are instead using a traditional 14 button keypad found on most phones.

The operating system has been upgraded too and is now a bit nicer to look at and is easier to use, without straying too far from the BlackBerry menu system that we all know inside out.

The BlackBerry Pearl 3G should be hitting the shelves towards the end of next week, but while you’re waiting for it to arrive, why not treat yourself to some of the Pearl 3G Cases and Pearl 3G Accessories that are available now, ready for your new phone

If you want to stay up to date with the latest handsets hitting the market, keep an eye on our release dates calendar. It’s updated throughout the month as and when new handsets are confirmed.
