The Genuine Samsung Extended Battery for the Galaxy S2 is a great bit of kit — you get an extra 350 mAh of charge in exchange for an extra millimetre of depth. For a phone that’s only 8.5 mm thick, that’s not a bad deal, but the potential trade-off is that some mobile accessories like cases, desk stands and car holders might not accommodate the enlarged phone.
Last week we looked at which cases fit with the extended battery installed. This week, we’re looking at our other accessories to see which ones fit and which ones don’t. We’ve gone through our inventory and tested three desk stands and three car holders to test, so let’s see the results.
Desk Stands
Samsung Galaxy S2 Desktop Charging Cradle

|
Desktop Sync and Charge Cradle With HDMI Out

|
Samsung Desktop Dock for Galaxy S2

|
All three of our most popular desk stands were fully compatible with the extended battery.
Car Holders
DriveTime Samsung Galaxy S2 Car Pack

|
Genuine Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 Vehicle Dock

|
Brodit Active Holder with Tilt Swivel - Samsung Galaxy S2

|
Again, each of the three car holders that we tested worked just fine with the extended battery — the fit was secure, but not significantly tighter than with the standard battery fitted.
Full Compatibility
All in all, we were pleasantly surprised to see full compatibility across our top three desk stands and our top three car holders. With our earlier posts on cases compatible with the Galaxy S2 extended battery installed, we feel confident in saying that there are certainly many accessories available which work fine with the larger battery. To ensure compatibility, it’s best to go with the products that we’ve tested and confirmed — but as these are largely are most popular items, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Smartphones are getting more and more powerful by the year but unfortunately this just isn’t something that’s reflected in battery power yet; generally speaking, you’re lucky if your battery lasts longer than a day. So it is with the HTC Desire S, whose battery only lasts for around 12-14 hours when used normally.
There are a few ways to deal with this; you can ensure that you carry your HTC Desire S charger with you wherever you go, and invest in an HTC Desire S car charger, so that whenever there’s an electricity outlet or a car cigarette lighter nearby you know you’ll be able to top yourself up. Or you can do what I did and pick up an emergency charger, which slips into your bag and is perfect for times like festivals when you know you won’t be able to access an electricity socket for a while.
Another option which will keep your phone running for longer on a daily basis is the Mugen HTC Desire S Extended Battery, which boasts 1800mAh of power – an extra 350mAh up on the 1450mAh contained in the standard HTC Desire S battery. Although the Extended Battery is bigger in battery size, physically it’s exactly the same, so it fits into your handset perfectly and won’t add any extra weight or bulk. That also means you won’t need to upgrade any cases or covers you use for your device; your current HTC Desire S cover will still fit fine.

The HTC Desire HD is a fabulous device but, like many smartphones, it has one weakness – the battery life. Mugen brought out a Desire HD extended battery with 1300 mAh of power. That kept us going for longer when away from mains power, but still it wasn’t enough for some.
So Mugen have just increased the capacity of the HTC Desire HD Battery to 1500 mAh but have managed to squeeze that power into the same sized battery pack, which means it still fits the phone and doesnt require a different back cover to be fitted. This means that the phone will still fit in all the Desire HD cases, Desire HD Car Holders and Desire HD Desktop Chargers that might otherwise be redundant if a new back cover bulged in the wrong place.

Beware cheap imitations and rest assured that Mugen are a reputable brand that have a years manufacturers warranty, as they are built to last.

Smart phones like the HTC Desire HD and the Samsung Galaxy S are great, but the battery life on them can be a bit disappointing. Keeping a car or USB charger with you is one way to keep your phone going for longer, but only if you’re near a power source. What do you do if you’re out and about all day? The simple answer is to invest in an extended battery.
Not all extended batteries are the same though. Some will fit into your phone without adding any extra bulk, where as others are physically larger and come with a replacement back cover for your phone. In the last couple of weeks, three of the biggest names in batteries have released a Galaxy S Extended Battery, a HTC Desire HD Extended battery and a Google Nexus S Extended Battery.
Galaxy S Extended Battery
The Galaxy S Extended Battery is larger than the standard one that comes with the phone. This means that in order for it to fit you’ll need to fit an alternative back cover to your phone. Although this does increase the size of your Galaxy S, it’s not by much and the cover incorporates a handy kick stand that’s ideal for watching films or videos with.

Momax EXPower Replacement Battery For Galaxy S
In terms of battery life, the Momax EX Power for the Galaxy S offers 2700mAh compared to just 1500mAh on the standard battery. This means you’ll get almost twice as much life from your phone before you’ll need to recharge it.
HTC Desire HD Extended Battery
The extended battery for the Desire HD may not be packing as many mAh’s as the one for the Galaxy S, but it still gives a significant boost over the standard battery and most importantly, it does it without increasing the size of the phone.

Mugen HTC Desire HD Battery Extended Battery
The Mugen Extended battery is no bigger than the standard one that comes in the box, allowing you to use the original back cover.
Google Nexus S Extended Battery
Again, the extended battery doesn’t have a capacity much higher than the original, but it’s still enough to get even the heaviest of users through the day. Like the Mugen battery, the Seidio Extended battery for the Nexus S doesn’t take up any extra space and can be used with your existing back cover.

To find an extended battery for your phone, head over to Batteries page and select your phone from the drop down menu on the left hand side of the page.
