BlackBerry phones have really taken off over the last few years and are no longer seen as just a business users phone. As their popularity has grown, so has the range of devices – the days of just having a range of 2 or 3 BlackBerry’s has gone and with most of them looking pretty similar, getting the right accessories for it can be quite tricky if you don’t know the model number of your BlackBerry.

To confuse things a little, BlackBerry have recently started to give their handsets nicknames such as BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry Storm & BlackBerry Bold. These names aren’t always the model number of your phone as there are currently 5 handsets that carry the name Pearl and 5 handsets that carry the name Curve. To get the right accessories for your BlackBerry you will also need to know the 4 digit model number that normally starts with an 8 or 9.

This short guide will show you a few quick and easy ways to work out which BlackBerry model you have.

Check your phone

BlackBerry 8300 Curve Rebadged by O2

This might seem like a really obvious thing to suggest, but most handsets will normally have their model number printed on the housing somewhere. If you have bought your BlackBerry direct from your network, you may find that the model number has been replaced with the networks logo. If this is the case – try the next step:

Check the box

Model Number Printed on BlackBerry Box

Again, it might seem obvious, but if you’ve got the box to hand, look for a sticker with a series of barcodes on it – your model number will be printed on here.

Check on the Phone

Your model number can be seen on the 'About' Screen

All BlackBerry phones have an option in the settings menu to show you information on your phone. This is probably the quickest and easiest method of checking your model number. From the main menu choose; OPTIONS -> ABOUT. This will then show you your model number on the top line and information on the software running on your BlackBerry will be shown underneath. To go back to the main screen from here, just press the back arrow 3 or 4 times.

Last Resort

Model number is printed on the IMEI label

If you can’t turn your phone on and you don’t have the box, there is one last way to find out the model number of your BlackBerry, and that is to remove the back cover and battery from your phone and look on the IMEI label. The IMEI label is normally a white sticker with a couple of barcodes on it. Your model number will be printed somewhere on this label.

So you’ve just treated yourself to the award winning BlackBerry Storm, but what accessories do you need to keep your new phone safe and working to its full potential? To point you in the right direction we’ve put together our top ten accessories for the BlackBerry Storm.

Genuine BlackBerry Chrome Desktop Charging Pod:

What better way to show off your brand new BlackBerry Storm, than to have it sitting on your desk in this stylish Desktop Charging Pod. Unlike previous models, the charging pod for the Storm also allows data transfer, so your device can sync with your PC while its charging. The angle of the stand is perfect for sitting back and watching videos on.

BlackBerry Storm DX-1 Battery:
Touch screen phones are always power hungry, so to avoid being caught short, get yourself a spare battery.

Dual Desktop Charging Cradle:
I’ve you’ve got a spare battery, you’ll need a way to charge it, and this Dual Desktop cradle does just that. As well as being to charge and synchronise your BlackBerry Storm, this stand has a descrete battery charging socket that will allow you to charge a spare battery and your Storm at the same time.

BlackBerry Storm Car Charging Cradle:
If you’re using your Storm in the car then this is a must. The windscreen holder attaches securely to your windscreen, and the charger will make sure your Storm is always charged and ready to go. This is also available as part of the BlackBerry Storm Platinum Pack.

InvisibleSHIELD Full Body Protector:
If you want to protect your whole phone, not just the screen, but don’t want the extra bulk of a case or a Skin, then the InvisibleSHIELD is for you. This is a military grade protective coating, that covers most (but not all) of your Storm. It doesn’t interfere with the touch screen, and is easily removed.

Krusell Orbit Flex Premium Leather Case:
This unique Orbit Flex case for the BlackBerry Storm, designed by Product developer Robert Mazetti gives your device maximum protection. Orbit Flex cases are designed so that you can remove the front flap to make accessing it easier, while still being able to attach it to the range of Multidapt accessories.

Genuine BlackBerry Storm Skin:
Not everyone wants a full case for their phone, but you might still want to protect it against knocks and scrapes. BlackBerry Skins protect the outer edges and back of your storm, but leave the front exposed for ease of use.

Martin Fields Screen Protector:
No doubt you’ll want to protect the screen on your BlackBerry Storm, and these Martin Fields Screen protectors are the best you can get. They’re precision cut, and will fit your Storm perfectly – no need to trim to size yourself.

8GB Micro SDHC Memory Card:
Although the BlackBerry Storm has 1GB of internal storage, it will soon fill up if you’re using it as your MP3 player or storing videos on it. A memory card will increase the amount you can store on the device, and while the device should work with larger cards, 8GB is your best bet.

Genuine BlackBerry Car Charger:
Make sure your Storm is always charged and ready to go. Simply fit it into the cigarette lighter port in your car and plug the tangle proof cable into your phone. Great for long journeys!
