The case is made from genuine leather to add style and protection and it’s perfect for both work and socialising.   This Samsonite mobile phone holster will fit a lot of different phone models due to it’s size – Krusell also do a similar style case.

Being a holster style cover means that every inch of your handset is protected but in order to use the features and ports of your handset it must be removed from the case.

There are currently more than 140 BlackBerry Covers to choose from, so with so many to choose from I thought I’d take a look at some of the different styles of BlackBerry cover to help you make deciding on your next one a bit easier.

BlackBerry Pouch

I’ve found that the most practical BlackBerry cover is a straight forward carry pouch. Quite often you’ll want to be able to send out a quick message from your phone and pulling it out of a pouch is so much easier than undoing press studs or folding flaps out of the way.

If you opt for a genuine BlackBerry Carry Case, you’ll get the built in magnet that puts your device to sleep and changes the profile when you insert your phone.

If you don’t want a pouch, then you’ve got two choices, a book style case or a flip case. Both are well suited to BlackBerry devices and give off a smart, professional appearance.

Book style cases are generally hinged on the left – this does mean that they do sometimes slow down your typing speeds and can slow you down. Flip cases are normally hinged at the top so that the cover stays out of your way while you’re using the phone – the only slight downside to this is that the flip can sometimes get in the way of your camera lens.

BlackBerry Skin

Gel skins are a great way to cover your BlackBerry and protect it from knocks and bumps. They cover all of the back and sides of your device, leaving the screen and keypad accessible.

Most Gel skins have a soft rubbery feel that adds a non slip coating to your phone, reducing the chances of it slipping out of your hand. This type of case will be specific to your model of BlackBerry so check to make sure you’re ordering for the right phone.

Hard, clip on covers are another popular way to keep your phone looking like new, without the extra bulk that you get with some traditional fabric cases. 9. Parrot MKi9200 Fitted Car Kit for BlackBerry 8520 Curve

Parrot have always made fantastic car kits and the Mki range are no exception.  There are three options available, the MKi9000, Mki9100 and the Mki9200.  The main differences between them being the display screen that comes with them.  I’ve chosen the MKi9200 as the best one for the Curve 8520 because the external screen makes it easier to navigate the menu’s and to see who’s calling you without having to look at your phone. You can play music from your phone through the MKi9200 using Bluetooth or 3.5mm line in.  The Mki9200 will synchronise with your phone book, and supports voice dialing.  There is also a small remote that you can attach to your dash or steering wheel to control your music and calls. Regular software updates that improve compatibility with BlackBerry phones are available free of charge from the Parrot website.

The back and corners of your BlackBerry might start to scratch or get damaged if they’re not looked after.  FlexiShield Skins for the 8900 Curve are thicker and tougher than normal Silicone Cases and BlackBerry Skins  and will certainly give your Curve more bounce if you drop it!  It has a non slip feel to it and covers all of the back of the handset, leaving the camera free for you to take your photos.  It doesn’t cover the screen though, so you’ll need to invest in a BlackBerry Curve 8900 screen protector if you want to prevent your screen from getting scratched.

4. InvisibleSHIELD for BlackBerry Curve

The InvisibleSHIELD is more than just a screen protector.  Not only does it cover the front screen of your 8900 Curve, it also includes the same tough protective film for the back of your phone. Installation takes a little bit longer than a normal screen protector, but the end result is well worth it.  It covers almost all of your phone (not the keyboard) and will withstand the toughest of scrapes.  The InvisibleSHIELD has a matte finish with a non slip feel to it. It is great at repelling fingerprints and reducing reflections. 5. Genuine BlackBerry Leather Pocket

Another stylish custom case from BlackBerry. This case is made from high quality leather, has a built in proximity sensor and built in protecti0n for the trackball on your 8900 Curve. Removing your phone is easy as it has a thumb groove for improved usability.  Unlike the pouch that came with your BlackBerry, the leather pocket has cut outs for your charger and handsfree kit.

6. ToughGuard Shell for BlackBerry 8900 Curve

ToughGuard Shields are a similar kind of case to a Crystal Case, but they are much more robust. Rather than being made from clear plastic, they are made from a more flexible, energy absorbing polycarbonate. This means that the case is unlikely to break or shatter when you drop your phone, but will still divert impact damage away from your BlackBerry 8900 Curve. ToughGuard Shields don’t cover the screen, so we’d recommend using a BlackBerry Curve 8900 screen protector with it. These cases are a secure fit to your phone and are more suited to people who want to put a case on their phone and leave it on.

The last case in my top 10 from BlackBerry. This case fully protects your phone and has built in protection for the trackball and a proximity sensor to put your device to sleep and save power. This post will hopefully help you decide on the right mobile phone case, mobile phone pouch or phone sock for your phone and will highlight some of my personal favourites.

1. Sony Ericsson Design Collection IDC-22

This  is one of the most compact cases in my top ten.  It will accommodate handsets up to 115mm x 66mm x 15m and is made from white Leather.  The inside has a fabric lining, space for bank/credit cards and also small vanity mirror. You also get a wrist strap that you can use on either the case or attach directly to your phone.  Although this case is not overly big, there is room for your lip gloss so you could easily take this with you on a night out as an alternative to your regular handbag.

2. Krusell Divine Leather Case

I love things that are a little bit different, and that’s exactly what this case is. Rather than being a conventional pouch that your phone slides into, this opens on both sides so you can put your phone in no matter which way up your case is.  It also makes it a lot easier to remove your phone if it’s a tight fit as you can just push it out from the side.  The Krusell Divine case is available in two sizes, Small and Large.  The large one will hold handsets upto 115mm x 66mm x 20mm and the small one will hold handsets upto 96mm x 50mm x 21mm. The case also includes a wrist strap that you can use to attach to either your phone or the case.

3. Nokia CP340 Carry Case

This is a great little case from Nokia.  It’s a straight forward case that you slide your phone into sideways. The case is quite a slim, so will only accommodate  smaller handsets like the Nokia 6700. It looks great is made from black leather and has a velvet finish lining to clean your phone while it’s in the case.  Phones upto 110mm x 55mm x 16mm in size will fit this case.

4. Sony Ericsson Design Collection IDC-23

Another great case from Sony Ericsson.  This case is more of a going out bag than an everyday one, but is plenty big enough to hold your phone, bank cards  and lipgloss.  It’s made of a high quality leather with a purple lining that also trims the edges of the outer flap.  It comes with a wrist strap and phone charm that can be used on either the case or your phone.  Most phones will fit into this case, but I think it looks better with slimmer phones such as the Sony Ericsson C902 rather than a larger slide handset such as the Sony Ericsson C905.

5. LG CCL-240 Pink Carry Pouch

This one is made for LG Handsets, but if your phone is the right size there’s no reason why you can’t use it with any phone.  It’s designed to work with the LG Arena, LG Viewty Smart, LG Renoir or LG Cookie, so as long as your phone is no bigger than those it’ll be fine.  Its a simple case that protects the screen and most edges it has a holder for a stylus – which great if you have a touchscreen phone and find you misplace your stylus all the time and need to carry a spare!

6. Sony Ericsson Design Case IDC-21

The Sony Ericsson IDC-21 is great as not only does it have an outer pocket to hold and protect your phone, it also has a second sealable compartment for storing your MP3 Player, money, keys, make up. It has a magentic fastening so anything inside it should stay put.  As with most of the other cases it comes with a wrist/carry strap and a cord tidy – this is a simple and easy way to keep the cable from your handsfree or headphones from getting tangled up.

7. BlackBerry Folio Case

If you have a BlackBerry, and used the holster provided, you will have probably notice that strange thing happens when the phone is in the case. Most BlackBerry cases have a proximity sensor in them that change your phones mode into silent mode (or what ever profile mode you want).   I found the free case to be a bit dull, not that easy to get your BlackBerry in or out of and also I found the sound muffled. These Folio cases are a much better option, they hold the phone sideways and make it much easier to get your phone out of.  They’re available in Black, White, Red and Brown and all feature the same proximity sensor to change the profile mode. The case is purely for holding your phone though, so don’t use this case to hold any bank cards as the magentic proximity sensor might wipe them and stop them from working!

8. Nokia CP-109 Carry Pouch

This is just a simple yet stylish carry pouch to hold your phone.  It has a drawstring opening and is made from a soft touch ‘Faux Suede’ fabric inside and out.  It will stop your phone from getting scratched and the lining on the case is great for giving your phone a quick clean. The Nokia CP-109 is available in Pink or Cream.

9. Sony Ericsson Design Case IDC-24

This is the last of the Sony Ericsson cases in my top 10 and is a definite handbag alternative for nights out. It’s not too clear to see from the photo’s, but the bag has a unique design and actually has lots of small holes in the leather. The reason Sony Ericsson did this is so that you can see your phone light up when a call or text comes through.  I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve missed calls in bars and night clubs because my phone was in my bag and I couldn’t hear it ring over the music!  The IDC-24 has plenty of space for your phone, keys, bank cards, money and lippy.

10. Mobile Phone Socks

Phone socks have been around for a while now, but they’re a fun, cheap way of brightening up your phone. They stretch to fit any just about any phone and are available in a wide range of colours & designs. They protect against knocks, help wipe off fingerprints and make your phone a whole lot easier to find in your bag!
