If you travel in your car a lot or frequently use your phone throughout the day, then you need a car charger so that you never run out of juice. There’s plenty of car chargers out there to chose from, whether it’s a fancy dock and charger or one of the simple USB car chargers available. I’ve taken a closer look at three of our most popular car chargers available:

Navigon iPhone 4S / 4 Car Holder with Charger

Navigon iPhone 4/4S Car Holder and Charger

I actually own a Navigon as my iPhone 4S car charger and what I personally like about it is its curved style. It looks a lot more stylish than other car charger and dock combos, but does the job just as well.

This car holder can be stuck to your windscreen at the angle to suit you with the simple suction cup. Therefore you can position it in a place on your windscreen which is not only safe but also comfortable to use.

When using the Navigon you can angle it so that your phone is in either a portrait or landscape view, which is great for when using the maps feature of your iPhone, or for plugging in phone chargers, FM transmitters and other accessories.

Using an accessory like the Navigon you still have all the features of your phone available but your phone is docked safely and securely whilst doing so.

The included car charger is a simple USB charger meaning you can use your own cable and it’s compatible with both cars and trucks.

USB Car Charger Adapter

USB Car Charger Adapter

The USB car charger adapter is in my eyes a staple accessory for any car.

Cheap and cheerful, this USB plug slots into the cigarette lighter and will charge any accessory via USB. This means not only can you charge your phone, but you could charge a Kindle, hand held gaming system like the DS and even tablets.

This means that if you’re on a long journey, you can keep your passengers occupied without the fear of batteries running out and calls of ‘Are we there yet?’

Compatible with any USB cable, this charger can be used on its own or with a dock, making it multi-functional and essential. The plug can hide away in your glove box when not in use but you’ll be glad it’s there when you run out of juice!

Genuine Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 Vehicle Dock

Genuine Samsung Galaxy S2 Vehicle Dock

The last dock and car charger on my list is the Genuine Samsung Galaxy S2 Vehicle Dock. In a similar way to the Navigon it docks and charges your phone, so it’s a great Samsung Galaxy S2 car charger.

Being an official product, the perfect fit and compatibility is assured with this vehicle dock. It clips your phone in place safely and securely ensuring that it won’t fall out if you take a corner too hard.

Like the Navigon it can be attached to your windscreen by a simple suction cup, meaning you can dock your phone safely and legally, at the most comfortable angle for you. To add even more comfort you can view your phone in portrait or landscape, so again it’s great for SatNav apps.

The USB charger fits nicely into the phone and like all Samsung chargers keeps your phone fully juiced whilst you’re on the go.

Sleek and sophisticated, this is a great vehicle dock and charger for all S2 owners.

So that’s my top three; whether you agree or disagree let me know through the usual channels

I was happy to see this morning that I had a visitor on my desk. His name is Android (Andy for short), and he’s got a pretty sweet gig as the mascot for Google’s mobile OS.

A Great Little Sound Box

The little guy isn’t just for show either; you can connect with him over Bluetooth using your phone or PC, and then he’ll happily belt out whatever tune you play. If you’d like to change tracks, you can just twist his head. If you want him to play or pause, just push down on his head. It’s a bit cruel, so you might want to recharge him over USB when you’re done, just to put things right.

The speaker is of great quality for its size, and at 2W loud enough for my co-workers to glare at me a bit. You can even give him a platform for his considerable aural talents with the included desk stand, which is useful for bringing the microphone a bit closer and enhancing the sound quality.

You’re Not Just Talking To Yourself

His talents aren’t limited to music, either. You can also use him to relay your calls, with his built-in microphone. The sound quality is surprisingly good, with calls coming through loud and clear. You can also use the speaker to perform voice dialling and voice commands. Altogether, it’s a cute and convenient way to handle your calls hands-free.

Want one of your own?

If you’d like a little more Android in your life, you should order an Android mascot sound box of your very own, exclusively from Mobile Fun. You can even take a look at a video below, which shows off its features in a little more detail.

To celebrate the success of Android handsets, we’ve put together the Top 10 Android accessories.

10. Dell Streak Wallet Case

Made from genuine leather with a microfibre interior, this Dell Streak case is the perfect companion for your handset.

Looking highly professional yet durable from the exterior but providing soft shock absorbing protection from the inside, this cover removes any smudges or smears, including those nasty fingerprint marks, whilst the handset is housed inside.

Unlike any of the other Dell Streak Cases available, the official one contains an integrated kickstand which holds your device at a 45 degree angle, making it perfect for streaming media, surfing the web and using many of the other features on the handset. Another great aspect of this case, is that it has compartments for storing MicroSD cards, so you’ll always be able to carry around extra multimedia hassle free.

Dell Streak Wallet Case

9. XPERIA Neo Sony Ericsson LiveDock Multimedia Station

The LiveDock is one the coolest XPERIA Neo accessories available, as not only does it look sleek and stylish but it also packs a punch when it comes to sound quality.

The dock houses your XPERIA handset at the perfect angle to stream media and play games and allows you to charge your phone whilst it’s docked; so not only is it a dock but it’s also an XPERIA Neo charger. The LiveDock can also be used to sync your handset and run your apps from, making it the complete media package for all XPERIA owners.

Sony Ericsson LiveDock Multimedia Station

8. Case-Mate HTC Sensation screen protector

Every handset needs a mobile phone screen protector in order to prevent the screen from being scratched and damaged by things as simple as dust and dirt. We’re a big fan of the Case-Mate HTC Sensation screen protector as not only does it protect from damage, but it is also anti-glare and anti-fingerprint.

The great thing about having an anti-finger print screen protector is that all possible screen marks have been eradicated and personally I always find fingerprints to be the worst to try and clean off, so an anit-fingerprint screen protector is a blessing.

The Case-Mate screen protector kit comes with two screen protectors making it one of the best value for money Sensation accessories available.

Case-Mate HTC Sensation screen protector

7. HTC Desire HD Car Upgrade Kit CU S400

This HTC Desire HD car holder comes complete with both windscreen and dashboard attachments, meaning you can position your handset in the prefect position which is both comfortable and safe for whilst driving.

Choose between docking your phone in portrait or landscape mode, making using the SatNav features or simply listening to the music on your handset simple and easy.

The package also comes with a HTC Desire HD charger meaning that you’ll never run out of power whilst one the go. Even better the phone stops charging once the battery is full, so you don’t waste any power.

HTC Desire HD car upgrade kit CU S400

6. Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc Pull Cord Pouch Case

This XPERIA Arc pouch is one of the toughest XPERIA Arc accessories available, due to it’s hard pouch casing and soft interior.

Made specifically for the Arc, this pouch offers a tight fit for the handset ensuring it comes to no damage and is shock absorbent, as well as protective from scratches and scrapes. To help remove the Arc from the pouch, it comes complete with a pull cord, which when not in use, flaps over the top of the handset adding extra protection and ensuring the handset never falls out of the pouch.

As this is a pouch it means that it does not contain cut-outs such as one for an XPERIA Arc charger, but other ports at the top of the handset can still be accessible.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA Arc Pull Cord Pouch

5. HTC Sensation Powerskin Extended Battery Case

Battery power is a huge strife for smartphone owners today as handsets never seem to have enough battery life and after a full charge before you know it you’re down to 20% battery. Thankfully Powerskin have released an extended battery HTC Sensation case, which doubles your battery life without adding a large amount of bulk to the handset.

The case ensures that all features and buttons are still accessible, but also has LED lights on the back which indicate how much battery power you have remaining of your 1500mAH.

What makes HTC Sensation cases made from silicone special is that they not only protect from scratches and scrapes, but they also provide shock absorption and provide a more comfortable grip, preventing those butterfingers moments.

HTC Sensation Powerskin Extended battery Case

2. HTC EVO 3D Desktop Docking Station

Just missing the top spot is the HTC EVO 3D Docking Station, which combines a desktop dock, desk stand and HTC EVO 3D charger with so much more. Designed to be minimal and show off all the HTC EVO 3D has to offer, this dock is one of the most stylish HTC EVO 3D accessories available, as it is sleek and timeless, fitting into the most stylish of homes.

This docking station helps to keep your HTC EVO 3D fully charged at all times, whilst syncing, streaming media or simply being docked whilst not in use. When teamed up with an MHL adapter the docking station can also be turned into home cinema, streaming 1080p video straight to your HD ready TV. This makes sharing media with family and friends a joy.

HTC EVO 3D Desktop Docking Station

1. Samsung Galaxy S2 MHL TV-Out Adapter

Topping our countdown is the product that everybody’s after, the MHL lead for Samsung Galaxy S2. Everytime we manage to get stock in of these elusive wires, they sell out faster than we can stock the shelves, meaning this lead tops the chart in both Samsung Galaxy S ii accessories and our Android Top 10.

What makes this lead so special is that it allows you to playback your videos and images taken on your Galaxy S2 to your HD TV through the HDMI cable. This means that the quality of picture you can view on your TV is better than you could with previous handsets, as you’re using the HDMI port.

The cable also features a micro USB input, meaning you can charge your handset whilst you stream media to your TV, so you’ll never run out of power whilst entertaining your friends and family.

Samsung Galaxy S2 MHL TV-Out Adapter

If you were asked to name the most powerful handset in the world, what would you say? iPhone 4? BlackBerry Torch 9800? HTC Desire HD?

It’s actually the LG Optimus 2X, which launched last Friday and is the world’s first dual-core smartphone. Boasting the NVidea Tegra 2 chip, the superchip that’s been powering the tablet revolution, the Optimus 2X is way ahead of other smartphones in speed, delivery and potential – developers are only just beginning to get to grips with what dual-core technology could offer for smartphones in the future.

LG Optimus 2X

Of course, all that power would be completely useless if the rest of the phone didn’t match up, but luckily the rest of what the Optimus 2X offers is pretty good too. It comes with Android 2.2 Froyo (and can be upgraded to 2.3 Gingerbread) and features an enormous 4-inch hi-res capacitive touchscreen, 8MP camera and HD video recording with HDMI output.

The SIM free LG Optimus 2X is available over on the main site, along with a variety of LG Optimus 2X accessories.

The number of HTC Desire spin-offs seems to be getting quite ridiculous lately, what with the Desire HD, Desire Z and now the Desire S – not to mention the rumoured Desire HD2, a device which sounds so stonkingly good that it may well be set to wipe all others off the map later in the year!

If you don’t fancy waiting for the Desire HD2, though, the SIM free Desire S looks like a fantastic handset. It’s being touted as an evolved version of the Desire, and given that the Desire was HTC’s flagship phone of 2010 and not exactly puny itself in terms of power, that’s really saying something.

HTC Desire S

So how does it differ from the original Desire? Well, for starters, it’s lighter and smaller, featuring a slimmer and stronger unibody design. HTC have basically taken the Desire and made it even more desirable.

It’s also got a heightened sense of speed and clarity, with a faster GPU, more RAM and more internal storage space (a whopping 1.1GB). All of that, on top of the 1GHz Snapdragon processor, makes the Desire S a force to be reckoned with.

The most obvious aesthetic difference is the addition of a front-facing camera; up until now, one of the major edges that the iPhone 4 held over the Desire. That takes video-calling and self-portraiture to a new level (how many times have you had to take a picture of yourself by just pointing and clicking blindly?! Or…perhaps that’s just me…)

It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, of course, and has a huge 3.7-inch touchscreen (if you want even bigger than that, you’re better off with the Desire HD). You can grab an HTC Desire S screen protector for it over on the main site, along with a range of other accessories.

HTC Desire S accessories | HTC Desire S cases | HTC Desire S chargers | HTC Desire S stands | HTC Desire S car holders

Here’s my weekly round-up of news tips from us – as usual, if there’s something you want to know more about then just drop me an email.

A fabulous array of new SIM free handsets have come into stock here this week – we’ve got the SIM free HTC 7 Pro for £459.95, the SIM free Optimus 7 for £389.95, the SIM free Samsung Optium 7 for £484.95 and the SIM free Nexus S for £479.95.

If you’re an iPhone 4 user who wants to avoid cutting your standard SIM down to size, the Micro SIM adapter and stand case for iPhone 4 might be of interest. This is a way to let you continue using your standard SIM in the iPhone 4 without having to cut your SIM down to MicroSIM size. It looks a bit fiddly to me, but could be very useful for people who switch between different phones regularly? Let me know whether you think it’s a good idea or not!

We’ve just got in the iChair for iPhone 4 and iChair for iPad, too. These slim-fitting cases with a kickstand which will let you prop your device up either horizontally or vertically, making it easy to watch videos and look at photos hands-free and comfortably. These look pretty good for terrible telly-addicts like me who like to catch up on their TV on the train (Is anyone else watching the new series of Being Human? OMG).

For those who prefer Android to Apple, the HTC Desire HD Case with Kickstand does the same job as the iChair but for the Desire HD.

Something pretty nifty for gaming addicts that’s coming soon are Thumbies for the iPod/ iPhone, which are little round friction pads which you stick onto the screen of your iPod or iPhone. They use heat-pad technology to take gaming to a new level, creating external gaming controls which give you a better feel and experience. As ever, there are loads of gadgets for gamers available over at our sister site www.gamingzap.com

Until next week!
MF Nat

Both versions of the Desire are great for both taking and looking at photos, recording videos and watching movies, but what if you want to watch your content on your HDTV at home?

The traditional way of doing it would be to transfer your media to your Mac/PC and then burn your video to dvd to play it back, but that’s such a long winded and slow process no-one really bothers.

HTC Media Link

Thankfully though, technology has moved on and HTC have brought out their tiny Media Link DLNA adapter that allows you to stream music, pictures and videos from your phone to your TV wirelessly. What’s more, as DNLA is a fairly common standard, it will also work with most other brands of phone that support DLNA as well as a number of laptops and cameras, although compatibility will vary from device to device.

If you’ve never come across the term DLNA before, you might want to have a quick look at our post on What Is DLNA? as this explains what it is and why you’ll want it!

Footprint is not much bigger than a bank card

In a way, the Media link adapter is similar to the latest Apple TV. It allows you to play content from around your house or from your phone, without having to mess around with plugging your gadgets into your TV. Simply power it up, connect it via HDMI to your TV and away you go. There’s no support for streaming from websites, not yet anyway, but as the HTC Media Link is running Android it might appear in a future update.

The HTC Media link connects quickly and easily to your existing wireless network, and all the set up is done through your PC. All you need to know is the name of your network and the password and you’ll be up and running in less than 5 minutes. All you need to do then is make sure your phone is on the same network, launch the Connected Media app, find the photos, videos or music you want to play back and hit play. Your content will then be displayed on the screen.

Engadget recently reviewed the HTC Media Link, here’s a quick video from them testing it out with the HTC Desire Z.

You can read their full review of the Media Link on the Engadget site. For more details, head over to the HTC Media Link product page.

The Desire HD is the latest Android super-phone from Taiwanese manufactures HTC. Despite only just being released, the phone is proving immensely popular with its 4.3” screen and 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. With such a large phone, the risk of it getting scratched increase – which is where the official HTC Desire HD Pouch comes in.

As it’s made for the Desire HD by HTC themselves, you know it’s going to be a perfect fit. In fact, the fit is a bit tight to start, but after a week or so using it you’ll be sliding it in and out with no problems. To aid removal from the case, HTC have integrated a pull tab mechanism, which means you’ll never be fiddling with the pouch when an important call comes in. The ribbon has a nice silky feel, and is firmly secured to both the case and the leather tab so it’s not going to break any time soon.

The case is genuine leather, so you know the quality is good. It is machine stitched, but it’s very neat and right at the edges of the case, so you get full use of the internal dimensions. On the front of the case is an engraved HTC logo, which while not serving any particular purpose, still looks good!

So if you’re looking for a way to protect your HTC Desire HD while it’s in transit, look no further than the PO S550 pouch. It’s stylish to look at, functional in design, and offers all around coverage against scratches and minor impacts.

The much coveted HTC Desire HD finally launched a couple of weeks ago, and it seems that the rush to grab one has been pretty full on, with Vodafone telling customers that they’re already working with limited stock.

Personally, I’m not quite decided between the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Desire Z yet – I’m quite attached to the idea of a physical QWERTY keyboard – so you can expect a blog-post comparing the two quite soon as I try to sort through my thoughts!

We’re currently expecting to offer the SIM free HTC Desire HD from the beginning of November, priced at £459.96, and pre-orders can be placed now on the website.

We’ve also been busy sourcing tons of HTC Desire HD cases and accessories ready for the SIM free lauch, and these have been coming into stock in dribs and drabs. But it won’t be long to wait now until all the accessories (not to mention the handset itself) arrive in stock, and we’re expecting them to fly off the shelves, so it might be an idea to pre-order pretty sharpish if you want to get your hands on them.

Here’s our top three choices of case for the Desire HD:

Flexishield Skin for the HTC Desire HD

1. Flexishield Skin for the HTC Desire HD

Our best value case, the Flexishield is similar to a crystal case but with the durability and flexibility of silicone. That keeps the phone protected from knocks and bumps, without adding too much bulk to the handset – something that you certainly don’t need, as the Desire HD is so large already.

Case-Mate Barely There Case for HTC Desire HD – Silver

2. Case-Mate Barely There Case for HTC Desire HD – Silver

The Case-Mate range is available in a variety of sedate but stylish covers, giving your phone more personality whilst keeping it looking tasteful. The case wraps tightly around the phone, emphasising rather than hiding its curves, and protects whilst also allowing access to all the ports and buttons that you need.

Piel Frama Case for HTC Desire HD

3. Piel Frama Case for HTC Desire HD

For something a little more costly but high-quality and professional-looking, the Piel Frama is an HTC Desire HD case that is designed to impress. Each case is made from finest hand-crafted leather, which each case taking a total of 25 days to manufacture from start to finish. The company also take a lot of care to work within the guidelines for ecological leather manufacturing.

HTC Desire Z Screen Protector

No matter how careful you are, without protection, your screen will get scratched. It’s just one of those things. With this being the case, the simplest way to look after the screen on your HTC Desire Z is to fit a HTC Desire Z Screen Protector.

The only way to truly protect your HTC Desire is with the invisibleSHIELD. This fantastic product is completely invisible so that it protects your screen without spoiling the look of the handset that a case can sometimes do. The urethane plastic that it is manufactured from is so super slim in design that it does not affect the look and feel of the Desire Z’s capacitive touchscreen at all.

HTC Desire Z

Now some screen protectors can be a bit hit and miss – they can scratch with heavy abrasion and can pick up dust if they are not fitted properly. Even then there can be an overlap on the size of the screen compared to the protector. Not so the invisibleSHIELD. Precision cut to size, the screen protector fits your screen snugly and, as the plastic began life in the US Military as a helicopter blade protector, it has self healing properties, allowing the scratches it may pick up to be erased and therefore remoulded into its original clear state.

Having said all of the above and for that extra peace of mind, InvisibleSHIELD are so confident that this screen protector does exactly what it says on the tin, the packaging includes a lifetime replacement guarantee direct from the manufacturer.
