Purchasing & Category Manager

The Opportunity

E-commerce Graduate Programme

Mobile Fun is the UK’s leading online retailer for everything mobile and to help accelerate our growth, we are recruiting talented graduates to join our company on our E-Commerce Graduate Programme.

The Role

This is a challenging and exciting opportunity for ambitious graduates to join a market-leading online retailer on our 2 year E-Commerce Graduate Programme.

You will work in 6 monthly departmental placements, gaining experience in a broad range of disciplines at a leading online retailer. You will gain experience and learn new skills in a selection of different departmental roles, including Marketing, Product Management & Purchasing, E-Commerce Website Management, Sales, Customer Relations and Logistics.

At the end of the 2 year programme, (or earlier if an opportunity arises), you’ll be given the opportunity to specialise and move onto the next stage of your career in a specific department.

Graduates will join Mobile Fun on a starting salary of £20,000 – rising to £25,000 at the end of the 2 year programme. Salaries will be reviewed at the end of each 6 month placement, giving the opportunity for especially talented graduates to advance at a faster pace.

E-Commerce Manager (USA)

Mobile Fun is coming to the USA!

Based in the UK, Mobile Fun is Europe’s leading online retailer for mobile phone accessories. We are a team of 60 people, working across offices in the UK, France and Germany, with more offices opening soon in Spain, The Netherlands and Italy. After the success of our European expansion programme, we are now expanding to the USA.

We are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic person with a high level of knowledge in mobile phones and E-commerce to be our E-commerce Manager for the USA. Your first job will to set up an office in the New York / New Jersey area. After this, you will be responsible for helping us to launch our US website, localising our proposition to the US-market, and recruiting a team as the business grows.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishing Mobile Fun in the USA and setting up a small office.
  • Localising a large number of products and product descriptions for the US market.
  • Working with the UK Web Development team to launch the Mobile Fun website for the USA, including customising menus, links and pages.

Following the launch project, you will be responsible for all aspects of Mobile Fun USA, including:

  • Management of the Mobile Fun US office – responsible for localising products, order processing, logistics and customer support.
  • Managing administration of our US office, including liaising with legal and accounting/tax advisors.
  • Managing Online Marketing programmes, such as Pay Per Click, SEO, Affiliate, Blog Marketing, etc.
  • Providing customer support for the US, including managing emails and telephone calls.
  • Improvement of the Mobile Fun USA market proposition, including competitor analysis, improving website conversion, etc.
  • Working with the UK Web Development team on website optimization, search engine optimization, etc.
  • Travelling to the UK head office in Birmingham at least once per month.

About you

  • You will have a high level of knowledge of mobile phones and tablet technology.
  • You will have an expert level understanding of e-commerce and online marketing.
  • You will have excellent communications skills.

Systems Manager

Mobile Fun (www.mobilefun.co.uk) has a vacancy for a Systems Manager to join our IT team. In this role you will work alongside the Head of IT and Systems Administrator to manage internal and external IT systems.

As one of the UK’s leading online retailers, we operate a complex e-commerce infrastructure and so we are seeking candidates with extensive experience of maintaining open source IT systems.

The role

In this highly technical role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of our IT systems, in particular our Ubuntu/Debian Linux servers in a busy network environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing all internal and co-located IT infrastructure including circa 25 servers.
  • Maintaining LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack servers, configuring and optimising at all levels of the LAMP stack.
  • Managing MySQL databases, including configuring replication, managing database backups, performance monitoring and optimisation where necessary.
  • Supporting the web development team, maintaining virtualised development and test environments and providing technical feedback.
  • Implementing and maintaining automated build processes.
  • Managing network security, including PCI/DSS security reviews and software audits.
  • Managing company firewalls (e.g. Smoothwall and other vendors) and anti-DDOS appliances. Maintaining VPNs, Email, DNS, Domains, etc.
  • Supporting around 50 Windows/Ubuntu PC users, Printers, Phone systems, as well as maintaining other technologies in the company.
  • Upgrading and repairing IT hardware, configuring new servers eg. Managing RAID arrays, etc.

About you

This role is suitable for someone who has experience in managing server performance and security in a moderately complex network environment.  The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • At least 3-5 years hands-on commercial Systems Administration experience, managing Unix/Linux servers and Windows clients.
  • Experience in configuring, troubleshooting and optimising LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack environments.
  • Experience managing MySQL databases, ideally in a replicated server environment.
  • Experience in network design and firewall configuration.
  • An enthusiasm for IT that goes “beyond the day job”. You might manage servers or systems at home or online in your spare time, or play a part in the local tech community.

Applicants with the following qualifications or experience will be at an advantage:

  • Configuring and maintaining RAID arrays and other server hardware.
  • An active interest in the latest IT, Internet and Cloud technologies.
  • Experience or understanding of compliance with the PCI Data Security Standards.
  • Familiarity with the Ubuntu or Debian Linux distributions.
  • Scripting experience and automating common systems administration tasks with PHP, Perl, Ruby, Bash, Shell, etc.
