Here at Mobile Fun we have a number of online shops, which have some great Christmas presents lined up this year. Here’s a quick run down of some of our best ideas! This year there has been an explosion of new “compact system cameras” which have all of the benefits of the smaller compact cameras, with the quality of lenses and picture quality which you only used to be able to get with an SLR. With their interchangeable lenses, and numerous accessories, cameras are going to be big gifts this Christmas. LoveCases has a huge range of camera cases to choose from, and they’ve gone to the trouble of measuring every case they have to get the perfect fit for your model. Some of the most popular at the moment are the Panasonic Lumix Cases, Nikon Coopix Cases with the Nikon L120 Cases and Sony NEX 5n cases being the most popular models. Why not take a look at their full range?Another popular gift is a men’s wash bag. LoveCases have some fantastic designs, including a retro beano wash bag which you can see above. There’s also a MG wash bag and an atlas design, by Wild and Wolf, who have a reputation for making some lovely gifts.

GearZap are another of MobileFun’s sites, and they also have some great gift ideas. There are some seriously funky laptop sleeves to choose from, including this also 13” black satchel by high fashion brand Fabrix. With it’s stunning felt finish and unique design, this is a perfect present to leave lying under your Christmas tree for someone.

The Kindle is of course a massive success this year, as it was in 2010 with Amazon launching yet another model, the awesome Kindle 4. Now keyboard-less, the Kindle is more compact, and a different shape meaning that lots of people have been buying a Kindle Cover as a gift. There are lots of great designs around, book style, flip covers, ones with built in stands, and also kindle cases with lights have proved extremely popular.

Gaming is massive this year, with some huge game launches having taken place in the last few months. Modern Warfare 3 is far an away the biggest game of 2011, smashing sales records that it set last year with the prequel. Our sister site GamingZap have some amazing PS3 accessories, including the ever dependable Sony PS3 controller, and the brand new wireless PS3 headset which is in hot demand. These would be perfect to give to that special gamer in your life!

GamingZap also have some great gifts from brands such as Kontrol Freek, with their unique thumbstick add ons, which have been so well received by review sites, and of course Hori, who have a reputation for making some of the coolest gaming accessories around.

The Phonejoy Bluetooth Controller is a familiarly-shaped gaming controller for Android smartphones. This controller will let you to wirelessly control the action in games, replacing annoying and difficult to use touch-screen controls. In any game that supports button remapping, you’ll be able to swap to the much more comfortable Phonejoy.

With the thousands of games available to play on Android, via standalone games and emulators of past platforms, you can put the Phonejoy to good use. It works over Bluetooth as mentioned before, meaning a wireless connection just like you’d expect on a console. There’s also no playing around with USB host cables or rooting your phone; everything works perfectly with all Android 2.2 and above phones.

Phonejoy Bluetooth Controller for Android

The controller is ideally paired with an mobile phone desk stand, so that you can keep your phone’s display at a convenient angle. You could also go big-screen with an MHL to HDMI TV-Out Adapter, letting you connect any MHL-enabled phone (such as the Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Sensation or HTC Evo 3D) to your HDTV.

This should make for some incredibly epic gaming!

Phonejoy Bluetooth Controller for Android

The Phonejoy looks the part, and won’t disappoint – it’s a sturdy and functional Bluetooth gaming controller that’ll turn your Android phone into a much slicker gaming experience.

The Kinect is the ultimate party game for playing with your friends, so there’s nothing worse than realising that your friend’s original Xbox 360 doesn’t have the port to support the Kinect! Luckily Gaming Zap has the prefect solution to this problem: The Kinect Adapter Power Supply for Original Xbox 360.

Kinect Adapter Power Supply for Original Xbox 360

This Kinect adapter allows you to connect your Kinect to the original Xbox 360, meaning you can play your Kinect on both style Xboxes, something you couldn’t do before as this Kinect adaptor isn’t included in the Kinect Bundle.

Another great feature of the Kinect Adapter is that it doubles up as a secondary, replacement Kinect power supply, meaning there’s no need to panic if you lose or damage your original lead.

Keep the party going, as the Kinect adaptor opens the Kinect up to more players and more possibilities, making it one of the best Kinect accessories around.

The Kinect for Xbox has been around for six months now, but it seems that we’re all still having problems playing it in our small living rooms. If you’re anything like me you’ve tried moving the coffee table and aiming the sensor so that you can stand in the doorway, but nothing seems to work! Luckily our sister site Gaming Zap has just the product that can help us all: the Nyko Zoom for Kinect.

Nyko Kinect Zoom Lens

The specially designed optical lenses allow you to play up to 40% closer to the screen than before; meaning no more huddling in doorways and fighting for space; as this allows two people to play in the same space that would previously have only accommodated one.

Even our friends at Joystiq and CNET have been having issues with living room space:

Couch too close to the television? Just move it, the sensor advises. Massive coffee table right where you should be standing? Just slide it out of the way, it suggests. For some of us, this ad-hoc redecorating process is relatively painless. For others a massive, solid wood coffee table isn’t moved so easily. - Joystiq

I’ve had a rough experience with the Kinect in New York City, mainly because my living room has only about 6 feet between my 32-inch TV and the edge of my sofa. The Kinect requires a good 6 to 10 feet of space between the user and it, according to documentation in the games we received. That’s a huge amount of room in most urban apartments, especially as that space also needs to be open and unobstructed. The Kinect’s setup process suggests you move furniture if necessary, a task that’s impossible for me, and an unkind expectation for most people. - CNET

The Nyko Zoom simply clips on top of the Kinect sensor, so there’s no additional cables or installation and upgrades required. The design of the Zoom blends in with the look and feel of the Kinect making it one of the ultimate Kinect accessories available.

Nyko Kinect Zoom Lens

The much-anticipated Xperia Play has been going down a storm with gaming fans, who can now experience PSP gaming on the go with the first ever Playstation certified smartphone. Two devices in one, the handset is also proving popular with retro gamers who are enjoying the opportunity to play classic Playstation games legally with the use of an emulator.

Here’s a handy round-up from PocketGamer of the best classic games for the Xperia Play & how they perform.

Of course, there’s a downside to gaming with a handheld device rather than from the comfort of your own sofa. Anyone who spends a lot of time glued to their controller knows that those things need to be able to take a lot of wear and tear, and it’s easy to envisage how a few hours a day jabbing away at your poor Xperia Play could lead to knocks and scratches.

Luckily it’s not too hard to protect your handset whilst you’re gaming with an Xperia Play screen protector, and our favourite is the InvisibleShield.

Invisible Shield Screen Protector for Xperia Play

The InvisibleShield Screen Protector for Xperia Play is made to measure, so it fits perfectly over the device’s screen, and provides completely invisible and scratch-proof protection whilst you game, text or surf the web. InvisibleShield film is the toughest available on the planet, too; originally designed by the military for use on the edges of helicopter blades, and it’s more than a match for a spot of Assassins Creed or FIFA 2010.

You can also grab an Xperia Play case via the Mobile Fun website to keep your new favourite toy safe whilst you’re on the go.

Launch of the Xperia Play and the equally-anticipated Xperia Arc got off to a bumpy start as production was severely impaired by the recent geological disasters in Japan, leading to major shipping problems and most UK networks delaying the launch of the phones.

The SIM free Xperia Play is available now via the Mobile Fun website.

Yesterday we were lucky enough to be invited to Gadget Show Live 2011 at Birmingham NEC, the UK’s ultimate consumer electronics show which is now in its third year and more successful than ever!

Here at Mobile Fun we often help out the Gadget Show on C5 with quality kit for them to take a butchers at – we even had the very lovely Otis & Suzi filming in our warehouse the other month!

If you’ve never been to Gadget Show Live, hopefully this blog post should give you a bit of a flavour. It takes place over 5 days within several enormous halls at the NEC, all stuffed to the brim with everything the gadget and gaming geek could ever want. There’s also a dedicated Gaming Zone, giving you sneak-peaks at the latest and upcoming games – all accompanied by the tinkling sound of tunes from Zelda and Final Fantasy being played on a grand piano. Lovely stuff.

We found some cool bits and pieces for tablets and smartphones, which we got the lowdown on, and I’ll be posting on in a few follow-up blogs in more detail – there’s a lot of exciting stuff coming up for the iPad 2, of course, and a huge variety of iPad 2 skins and covers, some of which we’ll be getting our mitts on as stock in the near future!

Laura, our Online Blogger Liaison, tried her hand at a spot of 3D gaming with NVIDIA 3D vision, which gives you the ultimate 3D experience right at your fingertips on your desktop or notepad. As they had specially-designed moving seats at the show it was a bit of a bumpy ride on the racing game she tried! Here she is enjoying herself – or more accurately, crashing the car every two minutes and screaming quite a lot.

I had a bit of a science fiction moment playing on Neurosky’s mind control games, which made me feel like I’d stepped straight into an Asimov novel. Neurosky’s Mindwave Headset is the EEG headset that’s available for the commercial market, and measures brainwaves from the forehead with pinpoint medical accuracy – now that’s really brain-training! They’ve got a variety of fun and educational games, and I had a go on the archery simulator, where you have to attempt to score a bullseye by altering your brainwaves. The Mindwave measures how much attention you’re paying, and how relaxed you’re feeling, so repeated use can train you to become better at both focus and relaxation – both very handy life-skills which I’ll be trying those out around the office!

We also particularly liked a device called the Sound Driver, which lets you transform a flat surface such as a desk or table into an amplifying device to make your music really pump – sounds a bit weird, but it was very impressive! We also saw a lot of flat panel DML speakers which disguise themselves as canvas pictures, so that your room is full of music but not full of unsightly wires and clunky speakers.

A lot of the gadgets around the show gave us a great glimpse into the home of the future, from rubbish bins with sensors that detect when to open and close, to adapters that let you control your lighting, heating and electrical equipment using any web-based smartphone. We even spotted The Gadget Show’s Suzi and Jon taking filming a very cute-looking robotic lawnmower!

One robot who wasn’t quite so cute was the enormous Titan, who caused a stir wherever he went by suddenly launching himself into the crowd. Here’s some video that we caught of him trying to chat up a poor innocent old lady – who reciprocated by stroking his face with a cleaning cloth!

First of all, a bit of a confession – I don’t actually own a laptop. Or a Netbook. No, I’m one of those dinosaurs who prefers to stick with a desktop rather than going for the lighter, more portable, more aesthetically pleasing option. And the main reason why is a bit embarrassing to admit – I just don’t like having to use touchpads to navigate across the screen. Don’t even get me started on those little red dot thingies.

Of course, there’s the option of just carrying a mouse around with you – and now that it’s easy to get a wireless mouse, you don’t even need the faff of plugging it into the USB everytime. But a normal mouse is a bit bulky to carry about all the time – not to mention, you often don’t have quite enough space to use one on the go, for example when you’re on a train balancing on a flip-down tray, or in bed, or resting the laptop on your lap.

And it seems that I wasn’t the only person with this problem, so SwiftPoint have created a new award-winning mouse which is free of wires, small enough to take wherever you go and more efficient than a touchpad.

SwiftPoint Mouse

The SwiftPoint Mouse is absolutely tiny, but comfortable and intuitive with an easy-to-use pen-like grip. It has advanced scrolling, paging and zooming functions, letting you navigate around your laptop screen with perfect accuracy, and is more efficient than a touchpage by 30-40%.

Best of all, it’s small enough to use on top of your laptop just alongside the trackpad, meaning that you can use it wherever you are – even if there’s no available surface. And the increase in accuracy means that it would be perfect for any requiring detailed movements, such as Photoshop design or gaming.

The SwiftPoint Mouse has won several awards which recognise its intuitive and innovative design, including Winner of Popular Science in the Best of What’s New Awards and an Innovations Award from CES Design and Engineering Program Computer Peripheral 2011.

To charge the mouse up, you just connect it to the equally teeny SwiftPoint dock; a USB dock with super-charge function, which will give you another full hour’s usage from just 30 seconds’ charge.

SwiftPoint Dock

The SwiftPoint Mouse is coming soon from our sister-site Gearzap.com, who also sell an extended range of laptop accessories and iPad accessories.

Both the Xperia Play and the Xperia Arc launched last week, so here’s our first look at the official Xperia Arc and Xperia Play cases from Sony Ericsson.

Pretty standard stuff, but with that touch of simple and bespoke elegance that you get from a top quality official case. The Pull Cord Pouch Case has a hard outside made from vinyl scuba material, to keep the Xperia Play protected from knocks and bumps, and a soft inner lining to keep it cushioned and unscratched. The inner lining is velvet, for that touch of class. A flap at the top keeps the device tucked away safely whilst not in use, and it’s easily removed using the simple pull tab.

The Xperia Arc case comes in black whereas the Xperia Play case is available in two-tone black/grey, with a stylish striped pattern.

Both cases are available via the main website, along with the SIM free Xperia Play and SIM free Xperia Arc handsets too.

Great news for gamers!

If you’ve recently got your hands on the fantastic Nintendo 3DS, you’ll know how addictive it is – we’ve got one in the Mobile Fun office and people haven’t been able to keep their hands off it!

Chances are, though, if you’ve been spending a long time staring at the screen, you could be suffering from the dreaded 3DS BOGGLE EYES. Yes, this state-of-the-art 3D device seems to be causing dizziness and headaches amongst users, particularly hardcore gamers – even our well-seasoned IT department were complaining of headaches after five minutes on the thing!

Here are just a selection of moans and groans from twitter:

@patrickcantype Very disappointed, the 3DS gives me horrible headaches. Heard this is an issue for people with one eye stronger than the other (like me!)
@builditfilmit I got a Nintendo 3DS today. Too bad about the HORRIBLEheadaches!!
@rodolfor the 3DS is flawless at generating dizziness and headaches.

I’m like a kid at Christmas at the moment what with the impending launch of Nintendo’s latest games console, the 3DS – and not before time too as my old DS is well, shall we say, looking a bit worse for wear. But as it’s been my trusty traveling companion for some time now, I can’t say that it hasn’t lasted well. More than I can say for the half a dozen styluses I have managed to misplace.

So with that said, it makes perfect sense to buy myself a Nintendo 3Ds case and a spare 3DS Stylus or 2. Our sister site GamingZap.com is a goldmine for 3DS accessories and I’ve decided on buying the following items to help me get the best from my new 3DS.

The Officially Licensed Expedition Case for Nintendo 3DS is perfect for looking after my new 3DS when I’m out and about and with the stylish 3D artwork design it’s the perfect match for my new console! The case can hold up to 6 extra games and 2 replacement styluses – which I’ll get onto in a minute. The soft inner layers of Expedition 3DS cases protect your system from scratches and wear and tear.

Officially Licensed Expedition Case for Nintendo 3DS

The Crown Nintendo 3DS Stylus Twin Pack is my next port of call. Featuring the same metallic finish as the official Nintendo 3DS stylus, the retractable stylus can be changed in size to suit any hand or the length that you prefer. With the Expedition Case having enough room for the spare styluses, these are a must for me.

Crown Nintendo 3DS Stylus Twin Pack

So armed with new case and spare styluses, it’s just left for me to smash a few high scores on Rabbids and Rayman in full 3D!
