Samsung’s Galaxy S7 is edging ever closer to release, and rumours are starting to solidify into more concrete details. We’ve rounded up the latest developments for you, including exclusive photos of a Galaxy S7 Plus case, three models in total and what should be the final specifications.

Models detailed: 5.1, 5.5 and 6 inches

One of the major talking points seems to have been nailed down this week, as documents from an Indian import / export website shows a 5.1-inch model (Galaxy S7) and 5.5-inch curved model (Galaxy S7 Edge) are being imported for testing.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge+ are dwarfed by the S7 Plus.

A further 6-inch model, the Galaxy S7 Plus, is also rumoured. We’ve actually gotten our hands on a case made to suit this titanic phone, and taken some photos comparing it to the Galaxy S6 (left) and Galaxy S6 Edge+ (middle). The case shows just how big the phone will end up being, which might be an ergonomic concern for smaller-handed fans.

The Galaxy S6 Edge+ fits comfortably inside the Galaxy S7 Plus case with room to spare, suggesting the phone will get dramatically larger. We estimate the screen size to be six inches.

Here’s a hands-on look at the cases, so you can get a better idea of the size.

New cases and accessories

We’ve also recently seen cases for the S7 and S7 Edge mentioned in a US government filing, which specifies an ‘LED View Cover’, a former special edition case produced for the Note 4 and Note Edge. Like HTC’s Dot View, the case’s flip cover shows the time and notifications; but Samsung’s implementation seems cleaner and more subtle than HTC’s unabashed retro look.

Specifications and chipsets

Finally, some specifications for the Galaxy S7 were revealed through an AnTuTu benchmark. The phone reportedly includes a 5.1-inch 1440p display and an Exynos 8890 octa-core processor, backed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal space. The phone also includes 12MP and 5MP cameras and runs Android 6 Marshmallow.

A Snapdragon 820 version is also in the works, although it’s not yet clear which models will include which chipsets. A GeekBench benchmark for a Canadian model included an Exynos 8890 chipset, so it seems that the Exynos models may be more widespread than they have in the past.

As well as there being multiple screen options and chipsets, some phones will also come with dual SIM capabilities in markets where this is important, according to an Indonesian certification site.

Conclusion

So there you have it, the latest rumours surrounding the Galaxy S7 and its many models. Stay tuned for more updates as we run up to the expected February 21st launch!
