Microsoft to abandon official cases? Krusell join Mozo as chosen third-party partner

This week, Microsoft announced its new range of Lumia devices, the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, the Lumia 550. It also announced that Finnish accessory manufacturer Mozo had been chosen as an official partner of Microsoft. Today, we’ve learnt that Krusell have also been chosen as an official case provider with their newly announced range of Malmo, Boras, and Boden designs all carrying the ‘Designed for Microsoft Lumia’ badge of approval.

In the past, there hasn’t always been a huge selection of cases and covers for Lumia devices compared to what’s on offer for popular smartphones from the likes of Apple, Samsung and Sony, but Mozo and Krusell have specialised in producing cases for Lumia devices over the years and it looks like they’re being rewarded for their niche focus.

This could well mean that Microsoft will not be releasing their own range of official cases for the Lumia 550 and 950 devices. The official back covers that have accompanied most Lumia devices in the past are nowhere to be seen on the company’s device pages, and given we’ve yet to receive details of any Microsoft cases, we can only assume they are relying solely on third-party manufacturers for their official cases.

Onto the cases themselves, the Krusell Malmo Folio is a slim and elegant looking case featuring an internal card slot and textured finish, and is available for the Lumia 550. The Krusell Boras case for the 950 and 950 XL offers similar all round protection as well as a built in stand, a magnetic clasp and room to store multiple cards.  And finally, the Krusell Boden case is a slim, clip on case offering protection for the rear and sides of the phone whilst adding very little weight and bulk, available for the 950 and 950 XL.
