Although it’s made from toughend glass and stainless steel, the iPhone 4 isn’t as durable as some of us would like it to be. I’ve dropped mine countless times, luckily without causing any significant damage, but there are a lot of people out there who have found out the hard way that it doesn’t take much to crack the glass.

OtterBox Defender for iPhone 4
It goes without saying that if you work outdoors or in a tough environment the best way to protect your phone is to put it in a case. There are so many iPhone Cases to choose from, but without doubt, the toughest and most durable case you can get is the OtterBox Defender for iPhone 4.
Design
At first glance, the case doesn’t look too dissimilar from most other hard plastic iPhone covers. It’s only when you get it in your hands that you realise it’s a bit of a beast. Because the case is made of 3 layers – a thin film to protect against scratches, a polycarbonate shell and a silicone outer skin – it’s significantly chunkier than most other cases out there.

That’s not a bad thing though. The soft silicone skin does a great job of absorbing knocks and bumps while the tough polycarbonate shell can withstand drops onto hard surfaces and minor crush damage. The thin film acts to protect the screen against scuffs and scratches.
The case fits really well, it has cut outs for the camera, flash – even the Apple logo. The buttons on the side are accessible using some ‘push through’ buttons and the mute switch is covered over by a rubber flap. To give the screen as much protection as possible, the OtterBox Defender also includes a holster that can be worn on your belt or carried around. The holster holds your iPhone with the screen facing in and uses a secure spring clip to hold the phone in place.
Quality
OtterBox are a premium case. You can tell that as soon as you see it. All the cut outs line up perfectly and the case is extremely easy to put on (although getting it off again is a bit of a mission). Unlike some cheap iPhone 4 Cases, there are no rough edges on the polycarbonate and the silicone cover is aligned perfectly.
Why Buy
The OtterBox Defender for iPhone 4 is a great case if you want something extremely robust to protect your phone. It fits well and the build quality is superb. It’s not the smallest case on the market, but from past experience, small cases don’t offer up much in the way of protection.

The belt holster for some is an unnecessary addition, but the extra size might make it a bit too big for your pocket, in which case the holster will come in handy. The screen isn’t as well covered as it could be, leaving it prone to impact damage, but at least if you drop the phone and it lands on a corner, your iPhone 4 should escape relatively unharmed.
Rating: 9/10

Could the HTC Desire Z be the next big thing in your business? Quite possibly! Having used this new HTC device over the last week I can see how it could very easily be a top business handset. Its speed, ease of use and fantastic QWERTY keyboard will keep any professional happy.
Business Advantages
The slide out keyboard may add an extra few grams to the phone, but it is a must for any business professional on the move. It gives you speed and accuracy when writing that all important email, text or blog! The keys are extremely defined and I have yet to hit one in error (something that happens all the time with me and on screen keyboards).

Desire Z
I wasn’t happy with the ‘clumpy’ design when the keyboard slides out at first. However I have now come to see the practicality and smoothness of such a design. This obviously then allows you to use the excellent 3.7″ screen, which I must says is crystal clear and the high resolution really does make a difference when viewing any form of media and surfing the web.

Desire Z
The HTC Desire Z also sports an integrated email inbox, similar, if not better than the Blackberry devices. This means you can have all your emails from several accounts delivered in to one inbox; it will even prioritise your more important emails to the top of the list automatically. You can easily distinguish which emails are from which account as they are all colour coordinated accordingly.

Desire Z Email
One thing that I didn’t like was the way the social networking apps interfered with my address book. Seeing all my friends pictures next to their name or when they called was nice, but it also added about a hundred new entries, if any of my friends on Facebook had their numbers attached to their Facebook profile it would download them and add them to my address book. People I don’t really know or haven’t seen in years in my handset is not really what I wanted. This was probably my fault for choosing a wrong setting, but I could not find a way to reverse it once it had been done.
This is definitely a phone worth checking out, as are the wide range of accessories for it. You can see what we thought of them in our Getting Started With The Desire Z blog.

If you’ve got an iPhone, you’ll no doubt have heard about Angry Birds – the addictive and frustrating game that’s all about destroying pigs to get your eggs back.
It was one of the most popular apps of 2010, and it’s popularity has lead to a range of Angry Birds toys and accessories hitting the shelves.
If you’re mad about Angry Birds, you’ll want to get your hands on one of these fantastic new Angry Birds iPhone 4 covers. They’re ultra thin, leave all the ports accessible on your phone and will protect the back and sides from scuffs and scratches – but most importantly, they feature your favourite characters from the game - Red Bird, Pig King and Yellow Bird.

With most BlackBerry devices being similar shapes and sizes, most of them will use the same range of BlackBerry Covers and Cases – with the exception of BlackBerry Gel Skins which will all be phone dependent.
There are currently more than 140 BlackBerry Covers to choose from, so with so many to choose from I thought I’d take a look at some of the different styles of BlackBerry cover to help you make deciding on your next one a bit easier.
BlackBerry Pouch
I’ve found that the most practical BlackBerry cover is a straight forward carry pouch. Quite often you’ll want to be able to send out a quick message from your phone and pulling it out of a pouch is so much easier than undoing press studs or folding flaps out of the way.
If you opt for a genuine BlackBerry Carry Case, you’ll get the built in magnet that puts your device to sleep and changes the profile when you insert your phone.
BlackBerry Case
If you don’t want a pouch, then you’ve got two choices, a book style case or a flip case. Both are well suited to BlackBerry devices and give off a smart, professional appearance.
Book style cases are generally hinged on the left – this does mean that they do sometimes slow down your typing speeds and can slow you down. Flip cases are normally hinged at the top so that the cover stays out of your way while you’re using the phone – the only slight downside to this is that the flip can sometimes get in the way of your camera lens.
BlackBerry Skin
Gel skins are a great way to cover your BlackBerry and protect it from knocks and bumps. They cover all of the back and sides of your device, leaving the screen and keypad accessible.
Most Gel skins have a soft rubbery feel that adds a non slip coating to your phone, reducing the chances of it slipping out of your hand. This type of case will be specific to your model of BlackBerry so check to make sure you’re ordering for the right phone.
BlackBerry Cover
Hard, clip on covers are another popular way to keep your phone looking like new, without the extra bulk that you get with some traditional fabric cases. This kind of cover will protect the corners and back of your BlackBerry from dents and scratches when you drop it, but don’t protect the screen, so you may also want to get yourself a BlackBerry Screen Protector.
