Great multifunction portable router
This is a completely portable 3G/4G router made y Aukey with a large battery for using on the move. The router has a sim tray, usb port and memory card slot. There is also a standard microusb port for charging, charger is not supplied.
The router can function as a 3G/4G wireless access point, a wireless bridge for protected surfing of open WiFi networks, a WiFi access point for any network or as a battery backup to charge your phone.
The software built into the router works excellently with a web-based tabbed interface that would be very familiar to anyone who has setup a router before. You don't have to go into the settings of this router to get it working, but I like to change the WiFi name and password to something more familiar and I was able to do this very simply and quickly.
The router has a poorly translated, but understandable manual, though I hardly referred to it, only to understand what the indicators on the outside meant. The indicators are colour coded, so for the network reception, the signal strength bars do not individually light up, the whole indictor goes from green to orange to red, depending on signal strength.
The integrated NFC did not work for me, the NFC was trying to open some sort of app, which I did not have and it didn't direct me to the play store. It was relatively easy to reprogramme the NFC using the built in option in the wireless settings of my phone, the nexus 6P, so for future users, they should be able to tap and connect. And that is one great advantage of this router over all the other portable routers, this one can have up to 20 connected devices at once.
The speed of connection where I have used this is only 3G, but it works well, I haven't experienced any issues in comparison to an older Huawei mobile router I had been using previously. The 4G capability of this router is something I know I will use when on the move as 4G on the Three network has been enabled in many areas.
I would have liked it if the router had come with a soft case to put it in as I like to travel like that and have the router protected from scratches but I just got a felt one off eBay and it keeps it safe.
Overall very happy about the router, it has been flawless in use.
