Comparison of Moor, Jabra & Nokia.....
I’ve tried 3 different pairs of Bluetooth stereo headphones recently. The “Moor Stereo Bluetooth Headset”, the “Jabra Clipper Bluetooth Headset”, and the “Nokia BH-505”.
In summary the Moor headset is the best. If you want more details read further....
The Nokia came first, and it was great, except for the fact that it didn’t fold in any way, plus the earbuds kept falling off. Within a few days I’d lost the best fitting earbud rubbers, and within a couple of months (having glued the second best rubbers on) it cracked fatally at one of the over the ear hooks. I suspect one of the kids stood on my coat with it filling out the pocket. While it worked it was comfy, although I felt I had to wear a baseball cap to partially hide the fairly chunky `back of head` strap (which I felt made me look like Geordie from Star Trek but with my visor on backwards). Performance as a phone headset was OK, but with the mike so far from the mouth that there was a lot of background noise in my speech.
I bought the Moor & Jabra at the same time, on the demise of the Nokia for my wife & I to both test.
The Jabra works well but the volume is too low, particularly for podcasts where I find the average volume is lower than most music. This was surprising as the earbuds supplied are `in ear` and go right into the ear canal (unlike standard iPhone/iPod ones), but are still quieter. It does of course fold up very small, and the mike works well on phone calls becase you clip it near your mouth. However you’ve still got those `damn wires` from the headset which sort of defeats the object. The buttons are also difficult to use, having to very carefully map out the surface with your finger to ensure you get the right lump to press. I did consider clipping to the visor of my frequently worn baseball cap to lose the wires into the hat, but the `clipper` aspect of it can only open 4mm max, and hence wouldn’t stretch enough for the visor.
I was more sceptical about the Moor headset having never heard of the manufacturer before. However I was pleasantly surprised. Quality is good, the unusual shape of the `earbuds` works well, not totally blocking external sounds (useful if out and about), and the volume is quite reasonable. The folding and extending mechanism is very elegant. The hinges are small, but be warned if your head like mine demands XL size hats & helmets, then the hinges do slightly press on the head when it’s worn although I seem to have got used to this. I noted there was a slightly raised seam around the earbud which annoyed me today (but not before), however a quick visit with kitchen scouring pad took this off and I expect no problem tomorrow. As no one wants to speak to me, I have not tried it on a phone call yet. My wife has also opted for these over the Jabra to wear when out jogging (she didn’t try the Nokia before they were squashed). A few minor issues I find slightly annoying: 1) the LED on the right earbud flashes constantly in use, rather drawing attention to an otherwise quite discreet headset. 2) The left earbud is marginally quieter than the right one ! (on both pairs of these we now have). 3) The buttons are fiddly again, it’s a real pain to `find` the centre right button to pause the audio if someone talks to you, it should have been the bottom button really.
I’d buy the Moor again (actually I had to, as the wife took the first one over the Jabra, and we both preferred the Moor :-)
