Nokia N900: Good, the bad and the ugly.
Nokia N900 Review: Good, the bad and the ugly.
Good:
• Excellent Web Browser (Mozilla based)
• Full Flash Support
• Excellent GPU, and thus games
• Fast CPU
• Excellent Camera
• Good Internal Storage, memory and mSDHC support
• Responsive GUI
• Multiple Desktops and true multitasking
• Well thought out GUI
• Stable OS (as long as you dont start hacking around without a working knowledge of Linux / maemo)
• Maemo Linux based OS, more apps and tools than youll ever need.
• Great community support (see above)
• Open OS, no need to unlock, jailbreak or hack to do whatever you want, although this can be dangerous if you dont know what your doing.
• Great for IT admins. (Given the tools that are available, rdesktop & nmap for example)
Bad:
• No Bluetooth PBAP or rSAP support, so it will not synchronize contacts with Car Kits
• No Turn by Turn on OVI Maps!! The N900 has a bespoke OVI Maps install that is basically rubbish. This is a killer feature for many people, and if you need it; buy another phone, as it doesn\'t look like Nokia are interested in updating it.
• No MMS Support, you can\'t send or receive Multimedia messages. (I can hear the Apple brand-droids laughing already!)
• OVI Suite isn\'t supported on the N900, yep, you heard that right!
• PC Suite isn\'t \'fully\' supported, you can\'t use the SMS feature for example!
• The Screen isn\'t Multi Touch
• You can\'t copy/paste from/to Emails. This one I can\'t believe, for an \'Internet Tablet\', this is a must have feature
• Cant mark/unmark multiple message to read/unread status
• Steep learning curve for non techies, you\'ll need to understand Linux and the maemo OS to get the most from it.
Ugly:
• If Lego made a phone, it would look like the N900.
• It\'s very heavy.
• Impossible to use it with any Car Holders (Inc the Nokia ones) as they all foul some or all of the top buttons.
All that being said, I really love the device, and I won\'t be sending mine back unless the Bluetooth porblems aren\'t sorted soon.
